Getting Around Boston

Boston has been referred to as "the walking city." The City of Boston works hard to maintain this label. Marking crosswalks, regular maintenance of traffic signals and pedestrian pushbuttons, and innovative pedestrian safety signs at busy locations such as downtown, and at schools, parks, playgrounds, elder complexes and libraries are a priority.

Yet walking is not the only mode of transportation in Boston. It is convenient to move around the city using the subway, buses, taxis and boats. For longer trips, Boston is home to Logan International Airport.

Thousands of residents and visitors use the extensive system of MBTA trains and buses to get around the city each day. Even those who arrive into Logan International Airport will find public transportation to be a very convenient way to get into the city and surrounding areas.
